The Nilgiris, which literally translates into Blue, mountains are located in the Western Gnats, in Southern India. These picturesque range of high hills gets their name from a flower, the Neelakurinji (strobilanthes kunthiana). This unique shrub flowers once every 12 years covering the mountain slopes for miles around in a purplish blue carpet. Tea is grown on the Southern end of the Gnats on many picturesque estates which are draped all along the slopes at elevations of ranging between 5,000 and 6,500 ft above Sea level.
These unique climatic conditions and stark topography create the special environment which results in the Nilgiris producing truly unique tea, fragrant with good body and a superlative flavor.
High up in the Nilgiri Hills, situated at an elevation of 6000 ft, Parkside Estate is blessed with a view which is simply breathtaking. The elevation and rainfall pattern on the estate endows the teas produced on that estate with a unique character which shows up naturally in every single grade and cup of Parkside Tea
